An auto body repair technician is responsible for carrying out various forms of repair on vehicles including structural repairs to the frame of the car, repairing dents, and painting the car for a perfect finish to match or improve the car’s initial paint job.

How do I become a custom car painter?

In auto body school, you’ll gain the skills and experience to become a custom car painter. Auto body repair school includes training in custom car paint blends, preparation of the surface of the car, protecting areas of the vehicle that will not be painted, and advanced car paint application techniques.

How do I become a collision repair technician?

To become a collision repair technician, it is highly recommend to complete a trade school program such as the Automotive Collision Technology Technician at Lake Tech. While some body shops may hire technicians with only a high school diploma or GED, studying the principles and techniques of collision repair will allow to find better paid positions and to advance more quickly in your career. It also prepares you for highly sought after certifications such as ASE certification.

How do I get ASE certified online?

In order to get ASE certified, you will need set up an exam at a testing center. You can register for the ASE exams and take practice test online, but you will need to go in person to take the test at one of over 400 testing centers around the U.S. Additionally, in order to earn ASE certification, you will need to show 2 years of work experience and/or hands on training in auto body school to prove you have acquired the necessary skills.
