In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, we will be recognizing various African American Inventors whose contributions impacted their industry and inspired others to pursue career and technical education. Today, we honor Garrett Morgan (1877-1963) for his work in creating a gas mask. In 1914, he invented a "safety hood" which helped make polluted air more breathable. In 1916, Morgan and other men were able to use the masks to rescue several men who were trapped in a collapsed tunnel underneath Lake Erie - they were able to reach them when other rescue workers could not. His invention was later used as the model to manufacture the gas masks used in WWI. #CTEMonth #Manufacturing #laketech opens IMAGE file

Today, we remember Lewis Latimer (1848-1928). He invented an early version of an air conditioning unit. He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006 for US Patent 252,386 for the "process of manufacturing carbons" for electric light bulbs.
