Villages Public Safety Department is currently hiring and forming an eligibility list for Firefighter/EMT.

Department assessments and interviews are scheduled for November 16-19. Selected Candidates will begin their 6-week orientation scheduled for January 18, 2016.

National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM and a valid CPAT are required for this position.

Salary Information: $32,979.67.

Department Information: This ISO Class-2 fire department, established in 1999, is located in a vibrant, growing Central Florida community that sits in three counties – Sumter, Lake and Marion. The Villages Public Safety Department, which boasts state-of-the-art technology and equipment, is an internationally accredited fire department that challenges the norms and standards within the emergency services community. In our short 16-year history, we have quickly grown from one fire station with nine firefighters and one fire chief to seven fire stations with 93 operations personnel and 15 administrative staff.

Named the “Fastest Growing City” by the U.S. Census Bureau for the last two years, this dynamic area includes close to 55,000 homes, ranging from 600 square feet Villas to million dollar homes that span over 6000 square feet. There is also over 4 million square feet of commercial property under our protection.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 18
  • US Citizen: Yes
  • High School Grad/GED: Yes
  • Valid FLORIDA State Driver’s License: Yes
  • Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
  • Vision: Per NFPA 1582

Academy Certification:

  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation Course) 16-hour certificate
  • CPR Certification
  • State of Florida Firefighter II Certification
  • State of Florida EMT Certification
  • Successful completion of National Testing Network FireTeam Testing and CPAT

Preferred Certificates:

  • FFP1301 Fire Service Hydraulics certification*
  • FFP1302 Fire Apparatus Operations certification*

*Preference will be given to applicants who have these certifications. Firefighters hired without these certifications must obtain them within one year of the date of hire.

Prior Experience: Qualifying on pre-employment requirements will include clinical knowledge and skills evaluation; oral review panel; acceptable driving record; drug screening and medical examination; tobacco certification; and background reference checks. Candidates must not have any disqualifiers (see below) in background.

  • Work schedule will include evenings, weekends and holidays; rotating shifts.
  • Probationary Period – 1 Year
  • Able to successfully complete orientation and probationary performance requirements as conducted by the Department
  • Able to meet and maintain Department requirements of health, physical and mental condition
