Minimum Qualifications:

Requires High School Diploma or GED.

MUST have BOTH of the following: (1) Florida State Firefighter Certificate of Compliance (Firefighting and Minimum Standards) AND (2) State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification or State of Florida Paramedic Certification (Preference will be given to applicants with valid Paramedic certifications.)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be in excellent health and maintain a good physical condition in accordance with NFPA 1582. Must be a non-user of tobacco products. Must be able to function independently. Must be able to work any shift assigned, including weekends and holidays and to be available 24/7 if needed.

NOTE: MUST possess and maintain, at minimum, a valid Florida Class “E” Driver’s License. Definition of valid – License meets Lake County requirement of an acceptable record:

  1. Less than six (6) points in a twelve (12) month period;
  2. Less than nine (9) points in an eighteen (18) month period;
  3. Less than twelve (12) points in a thirty-six (36) month period;
  4. No violations or convictions that indicate the valid Florida driver’s licenses is/was denied, expired, suspended or revoked during the five (5) years prior to conditional offer of employment or date of hire;
  5. No indicators of a history as a habitual violator of traffic laws during the five (5) years prior to conditional offer of employment or date of hire.
  6. Employees in this job classification are required to maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and must inform their direct supervisor immediately if their Florida driver’s license is denied, expired, suspended, or ticketed. Lake County Public Safety conducts annual driver’s license checks of employee’s driving record for those employees required to operate motor vehicles while conducting County business. Corrective action up to and including separation from Lake County employment may result should the employee not maintain a valid driver’s license.)

  4. A clear copy of current (issued within the past year) Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) from an authorized IAFF testing facility. FAILURE TO SUBMIT NECESSARY COPIES WILL DISQUALIFY THE APPLICANT FROM CONSIDERATION.

Job Summary: Performs fire suppression and rescue on fire scenes, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, and other emergency or non-emergency incident scenes as a member of a fire rescue team. Provides basic, intermediate and/or advanced life support [ALS] treatment to patients within the scope and level of medical expertise and qualifications. Drives and/or operates emergency vehicles and various specialized equipment such as: extrication, automated external defibrillator, and other associated power tools or highly sophisticated EMS equipment; performs maintenance tasks on various equipment, vehicles, fire station facilities, and station grounds; maintains clean and ready-state fire station, vehicle and equipment; carries out fire prevention, public educational program initiatives, and other customer service opportunities; plans and executes pre-fire plans and business occupancy life-safety surveys; performs various positions and/or mission tasks within an established incident command system and/or the emergency operation center; maintains certifications, attends, and participates in training sessions, classes, or other professional development.

Public Safety’s Fire Employment Screening consists of: – Written exam – anticipated to be on June 27, 2017. – Driver’s license check; background screen. – Successfully passing NFPA 1582 Firefighter Physical – approximate dates of July 18-20; – Ability to complete a required two (2)week orientation – anticipated to be August 14-25, 2017. Individuals not selected to fill current vacancies after the orientation may be placed on an eligibility list. As vacant positions become available, individuals on the eligibility list may be assigned a shift and station.
