Description – Starting Salary:  $20.27 to 25.35 per hour, depending on qualifications
(plus $.90/hour shift differential when applicable)
Grade:  S14

NATURE OF WORK:  Performs skilled mechanical and first-line supervisory work involving the maintenance and repair of City owned equipment and vehicles (i.e., refuse trucks, automobiles, pick-up trucks, backhoes, rollers, street sweepers, bulldozers, fire engines, rescue trucks, motorcycles, tractors, mowers, etc.). Work is performed under moderate supervision and performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through inspection of equipment, direct observation, performance of fleet, and conferences with management.  Ability to adapt to changes, especially in the use of technology programs is essential.

REGULAR WORK SCHEDULE is 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, will include weekends and holidays when workload and division demands so require.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  High school graduate with five years’ experience as a mechanic; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in all areas of vehicle maintenance and repairs of a multi-operational fleet. Management or supervisory experience required. Must be able to read and interpret prints, sketches, technical manuals, and bulletins. ASE and EVT certifications desired. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word highly desired.  Ability to communicate exceptionally well verbally and in writing preferred.  Florida driver license required; Commercial Driver License Class B with air brake endorsement preferred, or must be obtained within six months of hire.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
