Brooksville Fire Department is developing a list of interested/eligible applicants interested in a Firefighter/EMT position.  The list will be valid for potential candidates for 1 year from the date it is established.   The Department will be interviewing to establish this list and immediately hire two (2) Firefighter EMT positions immediately available beginning October 1, 2015.

  • Salary Information: $35,468.16 yearly
  • Benefit Information: 175 Retirement plan, life insurance, health & dental insurance, long term disability, paid vacation days, sick days.
  • Department Overview: The City of Brooksville Fire Department has a primary response area of just over 10 square miles. The Fire Department is an all paid department with 17 full time positions and 6 part time positions. Operations and Administration work out of one station that was remodeled in 2010. Line personnel work 24/48 hour shift (56 hour work week). The Department is currently BLS non-transport, but is working toward ALS first response. The Department has an inter-local agreement with the County Fire Department and is currently operating a joint city/county fire station as well as automatic mutual aid for closest unit response. Call volume average is seven calls per shift.
  • City Information: The City is the County Seat in Hernando County and is located where Hwy 50 and Hwy 41 meet. We are conveniently located so that I-75 and Suncoast Parkway are easily accessible. We are 45 miles northwest of Tampa and 65 miles east of Orlando. The area surrounding the city is filled with farms, state forests, and parks. There are several local beaches, parks, and boat ramps with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Population: Full-time resident population of 7900 people with a winter population of close to 9000. Daytime/workweek population increases to approximately 12000 due to the County Seat.

  • Valid FLORIDA State Driver’s License: Yes
  • Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
  • Vision: Must pass NFPA 1582 Physical prior to hiring.
  • College:  No
  • Academy Certification:  Yes
  • Prior Experience:  Preferred, but NOT required.

Necessary Certifications:

  • Experience with a recognized career or volunteer fire department is desired.
  • Florida State Fire College Minimum Standards (Firefighter 2).
  • Florida State Emergency Medical Technician.

All certifications must be current in the State of Florida. Expired certifications will not be accepted.

Schooling Prior and Post-Hiring:

  • Central Florida Fire Academy – Survival Training
  • Florida State Fire College Hydraulics (Required to be a driver).
  • Florida State Fire College Apparatus Ops (Required to be a driver).
  • Florida State Fire College Aerial Ops (Required to be a driver).
  • Florida State Fire College Pump Operator Certificate (Required to be considered for promotion).
  • S130 & S190 Wildland Firefighter if not already certified.

Applicants must complete FireTEAM and have a valid NTN CPAT through National Testing Network (NTN).  The department requires the candidate PHQ.  You can access the questionnaire through your candidate NTN account.  The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process.
