Alachua County Fire Rescue is seeking certified Firefighters that wish to become EMT certified.

Alachua County will pay for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training and certification (EMT certification must be obtained within one year of employment in the FF classification). Applicants will be required to make a two year commitment as a full time certified EMT with Alachua County Fire Rescue.

FIREFIGHTER/EMT 56:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE FIREFIGHTER/EMT 56:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and criminal history background check are required prior to employment.

Upon submission of application, proof of the following must be provided:

  1. A sworn affidavit attesting to the non-use of tobacco products. Click this link to retrieve the document.
  2. Current enrollment in a state recognized Fire Academy (if non-certified at time of application).
  3. A valid State of Florida Driver license free from moving violation citations for a period of not less than six months preceding employment; and within the past three years applicant must have had no convictions for reckless driving or driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances and must not have had a driver’s license suspended pursuant to Florida law.

At the time of hire, proof of the following must be provided:

  1. Current State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance.
  2. Current State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or must be able to be able to obtain within one year of date of hire in this classification.
  3. Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certificate provided by a certified CPAT testing center.

Individuals hired must successfully complete all State of Florida and local requirements to become a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within one year from the date of hire and serve as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Alachua County Fire Rescue. Possession and maintenance of EMT Certification is a condition of continued employment with Alachua County Fire Rescue. Individuals must be certified as Emergency Medical Technician in order to perform the EMT duties.

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC 56

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC 56:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and criminal history background check are required prior to employment. Upon submission of application, proof of the following must be provided:

  1. Current State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance.
  2. Current State of Florida Paramedic certificate with expiration date shown and attending privileges as approved by the County’s Medical Director.
  3. Current designation as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider.
  4. A valid State of Florida Driver’s license free from moving violation citations for a period of not less than six months preceding employment; and within the past three years applicant must have had no convictions for reckless driving or driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances and must not have had a driver’s license suspended pursuant to Florida law.
  5. A sworn affidavit attesting to the non-use of tobacco products.
  6. CPAT Passing score submitted to Alachua County Human Resources Office through National Testing Network.com (NTN).

Upon appointment to position, the following must be completed and maintained as a condition of employment:

  1. Successful completion of a course in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support / International Trauma Life Support must be obtained within the first twelve months upon appointment to position.
  2. Certification by the Alachua County Medical Director within the first month of employment and maintain this certification as a condition of employment.

NOTE: This position for firefighter is funded under a Federal SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant program. This grant is funded through February of 2019. In the event that funding is not continued for these positions, the positions will be eliminated unless otherwise directed by the BOCC at the end of the grant program.
