In the Weeks Ahead at Lake Tech

Academic Affairs

Business Management & Administration

Accounting Operations / Administrative Office Specialist – The end of the 2014 was very busy for our two programs.  To start with we invited members of the Insight Credit Union to address the students regarding budgets, finances, banking, investments and financial planning.  Since this is such a universal topic, we extended an invitation to our fellow students from Digital Design, Auto Collusion, and HVAC to join us. Ms. Rosenglick helped to plan this event.  Gregory Salter, Regional Manager, and Tricia Guido, Manager of the Eustis Branch of Insight Credit, were the presenters.  This informative team gave a very detailed presentation to over 70 students.  They covered the above topics as well as answering a variety of questions.   The presentation was well received.

Continuing our efforts to work more with other programs on joint projects, a team from our business class and a team from Medical Assisting planned and developed a presentation.  The topic, “How to Survive Holiday Parties”, was very timely for many of our students.  The presentation described how to behave, as well as the do’s and don’ts of going to a holiday party.  The team members included Suzanne Short, Laura Ocasio, Rovosha Edwards, Sandy Walsh, Brandi Mullens, Jordon Steele, Maralee Whipp, and Kassandra White.

We also took time to recognize our Student of the Month, Ms. Kasey Steele. Congratulations Kasey!

As a hectic December drew to a close, our party planning committee hosted a wonderful celebration for our class.  It was an opportunity to reflect of what we accomplished and to plan for next year. The party included a wonderful buffet, a white elephant gift exchange, and fun games, including “Heads Up”, an iPad game. Thanks to Karen Hortan and her committee for an outstanding time. It was an excellent way to end the year and to start planning for the year!

Adult Education

To continue in the giving spirit of the holidays, the Adult Education Department is sponsoring a coat/blanket drive over the next week. The demand for warm clothes/blankets is great during this time of the year.

The Adult Education Department would like to challenge each program to collect as many “gently used” coats, jackets, sweaters, socks, pajamas, and blankets as you can – all sizes accepted.

The program to bring in the most per-person “gently used” warm items will receive:

In the Community

Lake Tech students collected and donated 2,392 pounds of food to the Lake Cares Food Pantry prior to the winter break. Our goal was to collect 1,000 cans and we more than tripled that number. Congrats to the Practical Nursing students who collected the most! Check out the article in the Daily Commercial.  http://www.dailycommercial.com/…/article_0aa0fe42-26b2-5a3d…
