The Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, & Heating Technology program opens in just a couple of weeks…. The program will be NCCER certified and therefore students will be able to earn the necessary certifications for employment. During the week of October 21, instructor Steve Bagg will be attending an Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP) as part of the accreditation process. Business Management
This week, both the Accounting and Administrative Office Specialist students introduced the first edition of our monthly newsletter. The students are both the reporters and publishers. This publication records information about our students as well activities and events in classrooms and Lake Tech. Kelsey Tracy and Bradley Bryant are shown proudly displaying the first edition—hot off the press—from MS Publisher. If you would like a copy, please let me know.

This week we celebrated several accomplishments. Rosella Williams is shown with Ms. Stephan and Dr. Culpepper as she is awarded the My Florida Ready to Work Certificate. Stephanie Armstrong has earned her OCP C certificate. Congratulations to Rosella and Stephanie! Caitlyn Lewis, a dual enrolled student, is shown describing a project that she is doing for her high school. She is collecting used “prom” and “homecoming” dresses that she will give to students in need at three high schools in her area. She is dressed for “American pride” day at her high school.

In our classes, we worked on understanding different filing methods and record retention management as well as problem solving in College Accounting.

The Fire Fighting students invite everyone to the Institute of Public Safety for some special events. On October, 31, the students will participate in the outdoor live fire training. On November 7, the students will practice their rappelling. If you are interested in taking your class on a field trip to IPS for any of these activities, please give Ron Williams a call and then make arrangements through your administrator.

The Corrections recruits continue their Defensive Tactics and Special Populations block this week. Day Law enforcement recruits have continued the Criminal Investigations block. Night Law Enforcement recruits are continuing their Legal block this week.

Manufacturing
Five students have recently graduated from the Welding program and are now on their way to Denver, Colorado to work at a power plant. They have promised to send pictures! Eight new welding machines have been ordered and they will replace some of the old technology in the lab. When the new Center for Advanced Manufacturing facility is complete, this new equipment will be part of the inventory.

Transportation & Logistics
The Diesel Technology (Medium and Heavy Duty Truck and Bus Technician) students worked on understanding how a torque converter works, how to install a flywheel and clutch assembly, and how to solder.

The Automotive Service Technology program students really had fun checking out this brand new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. They’re also enjoying our newest tool, an alignment machine. The Steering and Suspensions students performed an alignment check on this 2012 Subaru Impreza.
