The Sumter County Economic Development Manufacturing and Distribution Roundtable Luncheon was held on Wednesday to discuss workforce needs for manufacturing and distribution companies. Laurie Bryant attended on behalf of Lake Tech. The speakers for the luncheon were David Casto, Sumter County Emergency Management Director, who spoke about Business Continuity Planning, and Casey Ferguson, Sumter County Schools Career and Technical Education Principal, who spoke about Career and Technical Education Programs in Sumter County.

Erika Greene, Associate Director, Workforce & Business Support for Agency of Economic Prosperity Elevate Lake, Tony Deaton, Chief Probation Officer for Lake County, and Laurie Bryant are researching a probation to work project that could potentially include Lake Technical College. They visited the Orange County Jail on Tuesday to tour the Jail Construction Program and to gather information and ideas to help develop a Lake County program.

Corporate and Community Training (CCT) has announced a new short-course:  Concealed Carry. The 4-hour course will be offered on Saturdays, March 9 and May 4, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, for $70 at the Lake Technical College Institute of Public Safety Firing & Driving Range.  A registration form and information on all CCT courses are available at https://www.laketech.org/corporate-community-training/continuing-education-2.

Introduction to Microsoft Office will start on Monday, February 4. Seats are still available if you, your students, family, and/or friends are interested in learning Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Boating Skills & Seamanship, taught by members of the local flotilla of the US Coast Guard, will begin on Wednesday, February 6.
