Firefighter Assessment Testing

ASSESSMENT TESTING

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Fire Fighter/Fire Fighter EMT assessment test being held at the Institute of Public Safety in Tavares, Florida. It is our purpose to provide the best in public safety training, and we are proud to offer this opportunity to you.

The cost is $75.00.  Call the Institute of Public Safety 352-742-6463 for an application packet and test date.

The packet will contain all the information needed to make you eligible to participate in the assessment process. The Application Form and the Hold Harmless Agreement Form must be submitted before taking the test. The written test is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. The practical portion of the test will start at 10:30 a.m. the same day. The written test will be referenced to The Essentials of Fire Fighting—Fourth Edition, and Brady Prentice Hall, Pre-hospital Emergency Care, 6 th Edition. All test scores will be good for one year.

The assessment will consist of two (2) parts. The first part will be a written examination consisting of one hundred and fifty (150) questions. Part two of the testing will include two (2) practical medical scenarios that will assess your EMT skills and three (3) firefighter scenarios that will assess your physical ability skills. Enclosed in your packet are brief descriptions of the assessment criteria and a list of the reference material used for the assessment.

On the date of your assessment, you must arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to your assessment. To be eligible to take the physical part of the assessment, you are required to supply your own bunker gear, Nomex hood, and FF gloves . Self-contained breathing apparatus, both MSA and SCOTT, will be available for your use. Should you choose to use your own SCBA, you may do so. Prior to your physical assessment, your gear and equipment will be examined by a member of the assessment team to make sure all of it meet safety requirements.
