How Do I Prepare for the TABE Test?

TABE: Test of Adult Basic Education

What is the TABE?
· Testing in reading, math, and language
· 2-1/2 hour test
· Helps us place you in the right Adult Ed class
· Also a requirement for most Career and Technical Education Programs

Schedule:
· The TABE is given each MONDAY from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on THURSDAY from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm. No appointment is necessary. Bring a Photo ID.
· The TABE is $20 for Lake Tech students and $50 for those referred from an outside agency.
· Applicants under 18 years old must submit an application signed by a parent or guardian.
· High school students must submit a completed application signed by a high school counselor and a parent or guardian.
· No cell phones in the testing lab.
· No children allowed in the testing lab.

Retest:
TABE retests occur on the recommendation of your instructor (ABE/GED/AAAE). Those who do not receive instruction must wait 3 months to re-take the test on a different form of the test.

Validity:
TABE scores are valid for two years. Applicants who do not have a high school diploma or GED and request financial aid must take an Ability-To-Benefit test such as the Wonderlic instead of the TABE. See a counselor for more information about Ability-To-Benefit test locations.
